Abuse can affect every one of us in different ways.
Due to recent media coverage, more people are seeking help and advice on being abused.
This can be physical, verbal or mental abuse.
There are many reasons why people are unable to disclose their feelings;
- No one would believe me anyway
- He said he was really sorry and that he didn’t mean it
- I was told it would be ‘our little secret’
- If I told anyone I would get hurt
- I accepted it as the ‘norm’
- I was worried what others might think
- I was really frightened
- It was a long time ago and I’m trying to move on in my life
- I married him/her so I’m just accepting it
It is very easy to brush the situation under the carpet and hope that it will go away.
Unless the problem is recognised and help provided, a person who abuses others will continue with the abuse.
